Blade Runner Reviews

Music from another time
Simply put, the film BladeRunner would not have even been close to what it is without the music of Vangelis. this sountrack is fantastic. from the eerie start with "main titles" through to track 3's "wait for me" continuing with the amazing "rachel's song", this is a recording that doesn't quit. the typical, futuristic music of vangelis is in full force here, and listening to it you just can't help seeing, hearing the future...it's stunning. i looked for this cd for years and was on cloud nine when i finally found it many moons ago. if you want something that will transport you to another time, another place, then do yourself a favor and get this cd....and if you don't have the film BladeRunner on DVD, then there are two things you need to get. the soundtrack and the movie. it's that simple.

Good movie ruined by a horrific score. . .
Vangelis?? How on earth did Ridley Scott come to the conclusion that he needed Vangelis to do the music to Blade Runner? Admittedly, the movie has the greatest cinematography I've seen in a movie in a long time, but the score just ruins the whole thing! It's just plain awful! From annoying high-pitched synthesizer to a cheesy saxaphone (completely unneccessary!), this soundtrack is full of complete garbage. The only plus I'll give it is adding in the voice overs to accompany the soundtrack; it really spices it up and makes it just a little bit creepier. The score by itself with no voices would sound incredibly bad and dull.

While this soundtrack does have its fans, I am not one of them. All I can say is shame on the Blade Runner crew for choosing Vangelis of all people to do the soundtrack. This is one soundtrack to pass up.

Blade Runner [SOUNDTRACK]
Blade Runner [SOUNDTRACK]~ Vangelis is a tremendous soundtrack. Vangelis shows his raw tallent, his tremendous loops and mindbending sounds. He is an amazing electronic music composer. 5/5.

A dark, nocturnal album
In many ways, this is less a true film score than an album: 1) some of the pieces included here have not been used in the movie; 2) although it works when envisioned in conjunction with the original film (as emphasized by the well-chosen audio clips inserted in a few tracks), it is also successful as a stand-alone work. This CD's soundworld has an internal coherence that is matched by few of Vangelis' other albums. And this coherence is such that it comes through both when listening to the work from the first track to the last (the sequencing order is partly inspired by the film's progression) and when using the random option to navigate in it. This is a strange and wondrous world in which you can easily lose yourself: I suffer from tinnitus and this is an album I often go back to - a very nocturnal work, one that can relax the listener and induce him/her in a dreamlike state.

sound track genius
I too compose movie soundtracks but not like the greats (David Paich) (Hans Zimmer) and (Vangelis) it is the greatest inspirations listenung to these great composers especially the Blade Runner Sound track way ahead of its time
For years, the soundtrack to Blade Runner held legendary status among fans of Greek synthesist Vangelis. Except for a few cuts on the Themes compilation, it had never been released on vinyl or CD, although there was an orchestral version of the score. But in 1994, 22 years after Vangelis composed the dark, edgy soundtrack to director Ridley Scott's archetypal science fiction thriller, the music of Blade Runner came out in all its cybernoir glory.

Vangelis couched his electrosymphonic score in percussive rhythms and shadowed timbres. Effectively interpolating dialogue from the film, the CD moves from the threatening tension of "Blush Response" to the ethereal wordless vocal of Mary Hopkin over a water-drop synthesizer sequence on "Rachel's Song." A few tracks, notably "Love Theme" with Dick Morrisey's smarmy saxophone solo, drip with Hollywood sentimentality, but Vangelis quickly wipes that away with the hyperdrive of "Blade Runner (End Titles)." --John Diliberto
