Believe Reviews

CROSSOVER VICTIM (Gospel to R
Yolanda keeps disappointing me. Her best album by far was "Live in Washington, D.C." Her two latest album's: 1) Mountain High, Valley Low & 2) Believe are terrible from a Gospel standpoint. In "Live in D.C." she expressed God's love and mentioned JESUS numerous times. You could look at the back of the CD and listen to them and know instantly that they were Gospel songs but when you look at her CDs lately, you may see one or maybe two songs that express her faith. Then, when you listen to them you don't know if she's praising: a) a head of lettuce, b) Allah, or c) Christ. She replaces words like "Jesus" and "Christ" with "HE" or "HIM." I can't judge her heart but it appears that she's trying to increase sales and toning it down for her record label. Donnie McClurkin, Kirk Franklin, stand strong in their faith and have good records sales and probably sleep well at night knowing they didn't let Christianity down. I can't say that for Yolanda's last two albums. Live from D.C. is her best and will remain a classic forever.
The "Believe" CD from Yolanda Adams is confirmation! If you have a personal relationship(..cause you live deep inside of me-"I'm Gonna Be Ready") with our Heavenly Father, this CD ministers to that relationship and serves as a celebration of it. Outside of the living Word,"I'm Gonna Be Ready"alone, can serve as a allegiance of faith (sight beyond what I see...strength to pass any test) and obedience(prepare my mind and prepare my heart). While it's easy to look for "things" to satisfy a void, the "Believe" CD serves as a reminder of what we all were created for, to praise and worship (gonna raise my hands up to the sky, use every breath to glorify..."I'm Thankful") our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ..it's all because of You that I even have life and I'll give my love as a tribute to how great You are, "I'm Gonna Be Ready." "Thank You" has an Aretha Franklin-ness power behind it..I'm compelled to praise you like a woman out of control. So I lift up Holy hands...I'm reminded to praise you for all that you had to do, "Thank You". Be a doer and not just a hearer. I want to pass this test. I'm gonna be ready!!
I love this song I songed it at my graduation. hearing this song gives me hope and faith.I love how she sounded on there!

One Love
Yolanda Adams has enjoyed a meteoric rise up the charts since her sparkling 1999 debut, Mountain High, Valley Low. A Christmas and live album later, she's back with her most polished and deliberate release yet. Adams calls on friends Shep Crawford, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and Kevin Bond to again produce a silky-smooth backdrop for her commanding vocal presence. While the topical matter on Believe seems geared toward a secular market, there are gospel strains on the tracks "Only If God Says Yes" and "Thank You." Most of the beats center around the radio hits "I Gotta Believe" and "Never Give Up," inspirational ballads built to showcase Adams's beautiful voice. There's some edgy funk to boot, with Elektra label mate Karen Clark-Sheard on "Fo' Sho'." Overall, the crossover appeal of Believe seems destined to make Adams's star shine even brighter. --Michael Lyttle
