Be Not Nobody Reviews

Be Not Nobody Makes Vanessa Carlton Somebody in Music ...
Vanessa Carlton's Be Not Nobody is great This CD is one of the best Cd's i have bought in awhile....... i am real pleased with the play list track's 1,3,4,6,7,9,11 are all sure hit's 9 paint it black gives Vanessa a real gritty edge that i was not expecting to hear i really love that song ....... She has a voice that's angelic and her Piano playing is up there with Sarah Mclachlan ... her writing is great the songs have power and meaning behind them you can feel that alot like Dido's music ........ there is so much more to this album than just a thousand miles it's a great song and i feel it may not be the best song on the album ....... like i said a good 6 or 7 real hit's on this CD plus all the songs are good to listen to and easy on the ears while nice to relax tooDan Kirkman33

Appropriate CD title!
Vanessa Carlton is one of the best new artists to come out in some time. I want to get it clear that she's not imitating Michelle Branch, Tori Amos, or Alanis Morissette. Michelle's voice is a bit similar in tone to Vanessa's, but Vanessa's voice is more expressive and versatile. Even though Vanessa's voice is youthful, it is still mature. It's not a canned type of pop voice, which is nice. Michelle also has far more of a guitar oriented sound than Vanessa. The base of Vanessa's sound is the piano. Her piano playing is a wonder to behold. If you doubt, listen to "Wanted," which has a frantic pace of piano playing. Makes the playing on "A Thousand Miles" seem slow. The production allows Vanessa's music to shine. A good example is "Twilight," which has spare, somber arrangements. Some songs build to dramatic parts, reminding me of classical pieces. But it does not make them overproduced. If you listen closely, Vanessa's music truly has a unique quality in today's music scene. She is poppier than Tori, but the quality of the music is equal in my opinion. She makes her version of "Paint It Black" worthy by keeping the intensity with limited Middle Eastern-played sections. And if you need something upbeat, "Unsung" is one of the more danceable songs I've heard. Finally, the lyrics will put indelible images in your mind. Also, you can tell her lyrics come from the inside. Get Vanessa's album as soon as you can.

The Best
Vanessa has the prettiest voice. Her piano skills are amazing. She still doesn't measure up to some of the other artists out there but that doesn't mean she isn't good. Her songs are both pretty, but unique. Her newest, 'White Houses' is diffrent but a very beautifull song. Her CD is defiantly worth walking a thousand miles for.

Amazing and Unique!!!!! rare talent!!!
I really don't remember why I bought this Album, I guess I was juss bored. But after I bought it and listen to it, I fell completely IN LOVE with it!!! I'm not kidding!!! here's my review of her:

Her voice: I can understand why some people who are Christina Aguilera lovers who juss hate her voice. But her voice is very very unique and is perfect for her CD!!!

Her lyrics: Other than Evanescence's lyrics, she wrote the best lyrics ever!!!! full of imagery and unthinkable imaginations. her lyrics literaturally SINK into me and all my feelings just APPEARED in her lyrics. Wow, real genius

Her music: she is such a good piano player and her music is cool and beautiful. it has the power is drown one's soul.

although she does kinda of sit in the shadows of Alicia Keys, who first started this whole playing piano singing thing, I would definitely recommand her CD than Alicia Keys. She did her combo with the piano better than anybody else I've heard. Vanessa Calton is- GORGEOUS!!!!

LYRICAL DRIVEN FAST BEATEN!
Vanessa Carlton debut album came into the light of the music business, between the years that gaves us Furtado, Lavigne, and Branch, not to compare any of the four girls, because each debut album of their are supreme pop-rock records. What sets Carlton apart from the rest is the sensational debut single "A THOUSAND MILES" the song enbodies great fast beat with clever driven lyrics, this track would be a classic song for years to come, the explanation of an unconditional love in this song is simple and true. "ORDINARY DAY" was the second track deliver to radio waves, a most intimate downtempo, emotional deliver song. "PRETTY BABY" the last cut to make it to the mainstream is a devotional song about your love one. In conclution Carlton debut album delivers an emotional rollercoaster of POP-AC music fittable in mainstream wave, this is a delight to the ear.
With her much-anticipated debut, ex-ballerina Vanessa Carlton more than makes good on the promise of her first single, "A Thousand Miles." Augmenting her classical training with a broad range of pop she soaked up playing New York City clubs and listening to classic rock in her father's car, Be Not Nobody finds the phenom decorating her fierce piano playing with orchestration, guitars, and percussion galore. "Prince" is sizzling and funky, while "Ordinary Day" displays a majestic grace and "Unsung" is a stomping blues-bar breakdown. Comparisons to Fiona Apple and Little Earthquakes-era Tori Amos (especially on the haunting "Sway" and "Wanted") are inevitable and justified. Yet Carlton sounds fresh, even on a menacing interpretation of the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black." With the exception of the anemic ballad "Pretty Baby," this impressive debut makes a strong case that a new star has emerged. --Annie Zaleski
