As The Palaces Burn Reviews

Like a Sledgehammer to the Head
After what I thought was the demise of good metal in the '90's, along comes Lamb of God with this album. This is some of the hardest, rawest stuff I have ever heard. Blythe's growling, angry vocals are also amazing, and unlike on their debut (New American Gospel), his voice adds to the heaviness.

It's not all just the music, either. The lyrics on this CD stand out as cynical, rage-inspired, downright beautiful pieces of poetry. These guys have a talent for turning old cliches into irony; there are phrases on the CD you wouldn't expect to hear in metal. Listen to my personal favorite, "Boot Scraper", to see what I mean.

If you like pure brutality and grindcore, this CD is probably not for you. It's melodic and heavy without being over-the-top, which is what I like about it. All in all, I have to say this is one of the best metal albums I've ever heard. I'd rank it right up there with Carcass's Heartwork or Megadeth's Rust in Peace.

Wow, I can't wait to see these guys live...
Wow, how am I to describe this cd? Well, let's just say this...have you ever wondered what the sound of pure violence sounds like? Don't look too much farther, 'cause this cd is it.

I heard about Lamb of God from the Freddy vs. Jason soundtrack (A very good buy also if I may add...). The song 11th Hour made its appearance on the album, and caught me completely by surprise. I was mesmerized by the frantic, start-stop, blast of insanity that was coming from my stereo. So from then on, I was hooked. It's pretty much all you need from an American heavy metal band: pure craziness. Crazy vocals, crazy guitar work, and crazy drumming. Although sometimes repetitive, the singer (Randy Blythe) belts out this distinct guttural growl that fits the intensity of the music perfectly. These guys could hang with any heavy metal band out there today.

The only downfall of this cd (if you could even call it a downfall), is that the songs all pretty much have the same tempo. It fits the album well, but sometimes you think you're listening to the same song. But still, a fine cd. The best songs on here are Ruin and 11th hour.

Hopefully, if I can get down to Ozzfest this year, I'll be able to see this band. I can just imagine the mounds of dead bodies piling up after they rip into their first head-crushing anthem of violence. This cd definitely inspires you to see them. Whoo...I think I'm gonna go listen to it now and break everything in my room.

Rock on Lamb of God!...and that's the truth!

I've seen these guys live...
probably close to 25 times now, maybe more, the first time being way back when they went as BTP and only had some splits out with Zed and Agents of Satan. (As you might surmise, their a retardedly impressive live act). They were an amazing band then and are considerably more impressive as time as only increased their talents. Some people might view their massive increase in popularity and signing to Epic of course as selling out but f&%k em, if any band deserves a shot at being considered a Black Sabbath, Slayer or Judas Priest of metal for this decade, Lamb of God is the band. Their new track I've heard on MP3 and seen live (Laid to Rest) is just as brutally heavy as anything they've done, I see no respite in their aggressive ways simply because of a new label. LOG will continue to deliver crushing metal as they have promised, I don't see this band churning out a black metal anytime soon.

This might be considered the album that really gave the metal community the collective kick in the rear it needed to recoqnize this band as being a contender for one of the best metal bands ever. The riffs fly by fast and heavy and display a rare mix of agressivness and catchiness which many metal bands I'm sure would give their left nut to be able to write. Compared to New American Gospel the songs are more involved and therefore not quite as immediate. NAG was just an instant kick boot to the face with it's vicious attack. ATPB will take a listen or two to fully appreciate (this isn't like Gorguts though with Obscura, only a few listens, not 200) but once you do you'll realize this is every bit as menacing and violent as NAG ever was. There isn't a track on this album I'd label as average, while some are better then others (Ruin, Blood Junkie and Vigil being highlights), every track is a metal masterpiece. Delay no longer if you don't own this album, buy it, gather your buddies, open some beers and headbang till it f&%king hurts

Blood metal in my words, sic sic stuff my friend.
LoG's new album ATPGB is a very intense, rageful, evil album. An improvement over NAG because Randall doesn't sound so high pitch, you can understand it all too, it gets you a better feeling and rage to the music when you know the message, and your subconsciense isn't just pickin' it all up. The best guitar lines I've heard in a long time, some crazy stuff, no one can match Randall's throating, a true piece of filth he is, and you've gotta love em for it. Buy this album, you won't be dissapointed.

Excellent Band!!!!
Not quite as good as New American Gospel, but nonetheless a great album. If you are looking for music to enable you to beat the hell out of anyone, this CD is it. Randy Blythe's vocals are absolutely his own, no one else on earth sounds like this guy. He's definately possessed by some kind of evil force. The music is amazing once again also. This is some incredible metal right here. In a few words: BUY IT!
