The best one album hit band, album out there
Ugly Kid Joe may have been one album hit wonders but the fact still remains this is a sensational album. Everything About You was a huge hit and a much needed song in the face of all the soppy love songs around. Neighbor although incorrectly spelt is a great song, in fact all the songs on this album are great there are no fillers. Of course the other big song from this album was Cats In the Cradle a much better version than Cat Stevens' one. Mr. Recordman although not released to my knowledge, was played a bit and became a bit of a cult hit anyway. I also particularly like Madman.Don't punish this album by not buying it because Ugly Kid Joe promised so much and created their terrible second album about Milkman's sons and other stuff. It's not the album's fault who it's parents are. This is a sensational no filler album and one you should add to your collection. Lyrics are also included.
Overlooked.
This is 'Pop-metal', if you will forgive the slightly oxymoronic genre handle, of the highest order.
As insightful other reviewers have already pointed out, if this album had been released four or five years earlier than it was it could have propelled Ugly Kid Joe into the stratosphere, instead of being buried when the glut of grunge albums appearing in 1992 made them and this style of music very unfashionable very quickly.
This fact is a shame, because this is a very strong record from some talented players. Granted, it is hardly profound, it will not offer you spiritual enlightenment or political lyrics. What it does offer is a real sense of humour and fun, perfect fodder for the adolescent or the inner child inside us all.
It should be noted that Whitfield Crane's vocals are very strong, Klaus' guitar playing very accomplished, yet it is the strength of the songs that shine here.
'Neighbor' concerns a neighbour from hell, while 'Goddamn Devil' suggests we make a pact with the devil 'Grow our hair' and 'spread his word' in a metal band. Satirical maybe, hilarious almost, meant for fun certainly.
In other tracks, like 'Busy Bee' or a surprisingly well executed cover of Harry Chapin's 'Cats in the Cradle' the band show a more sensitive side, and prove themselves good musicians. Elsewhere, 'Panhandlin' Prince', 'So Damn Cool' and 'Dont Go' are catchy 80's songs with irresistible vocal melodies and moronic vocals, aided ably by twiddly guitars and crunch heavy riffs.
In short this album will not change your life, but the songs included will burrow into your brain and take up residence, as well as introducing a spring into your step and carefree listening.
Buy this album if you enjoy this style of music, or if you merely want to escape from reality into a world where little is serious and dancing idiotically mandatory.
An appropriate album name...
24 good reasons not to get 'America's Least Wanted':
24. Even though the band thought they were being funny and "ironic", the album title was reasonably apt, as Americans in their millions didn't buy the album.
23. Nor did billions of people from around the world.
22. In the future, billions will continue not to buy 'America's Least Wanted'.
21. Ugly Kid Joe influenced Limp Bizkit. Probably.
20. Ugly Kid Joe's name was supposed to be the polar opposite of Glam Rock band Pretty Boy Floyd.
19. Pretty Boy Floyd were actually named after a gangster. Ugly Kid Joe weren't named after a police man.
18. Fred Durst thinks he's a gangsta.
17. Pretty Boy Floyd weren't very pretty, and Ugly Kid Joe weren't very ugly.
16. Ugly Kid Joe were not even very good at being one hit wonders. They ended up with two.
15. One of the hits, "Cat's In The Cradle" is often thought to be a Cat Stevens song. It's not. Harry Chapin wrote it.
14. The other hit, "Everything About You" could never be confused with a Cat Stevens song, of which Mr Stevens is probably eternally grateful.
13. Cat Stevens is not called Cat Stevens any more. He converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam.
12. Harry Chapin was a proper one hit wonder. He wrote nothing else of note besides 'Cat's In The Cradle'.
11. Pretty Boy Floyd weren't even one hit wonders. No one actually remembers anything about Pretty Boy Floyd except Ugly Kid Joe were named after them.
10. Well, Ugly Kid Joe's mascot and Fred Durst both wear red caps, so there's a bit of an influence.
9. 'America's Least Wanted' has a cartoon of the Statue Of Liberty on it. Sacred Reich's 'The American Way' and the Acid Drinkers' 'Strip Tease' also had cartoons of the Statue Of Liberty on the cover.
8. 'The American Way' and 'Strip Tease' weren't very good.
7. The Statue Of Liberty came to life in Ghostbusters II. It wasn't very good either.
6. Outside the two hit songs, the rest of this album is filler.
5. Ugly Kid Joe singer Whitfield Crane ended up singing for the band Life Of Agony. It was about this time the rest of Life Of Agony discovered he was a crap singer. Millions of Americans already knew this, hence the fact they didn't want 'America's Least Wanted'.
4. Life Of Agony weren't named after a gangster.
3. A lot of people would be very happy if Fred Durst gave up his music career for the Islamic religion. Except for the Muslims.
2. A lot of people wouldn't notice if Whitfield Crane gave up his music career for the Islamic religion.
And the number one, most important reason not to get 'America's Least Wanted' is...
It's not very good.
an overlooked gem
If the opening song here "Neighbor" doesn't make you laugh, there's something wrong with you :). Ugly Kid Joe was a couple of skater surfer dudes whose songs were fashionably piled up with angst and cynical humor, grunge generation style. If you like good rock tunes, you gotta hear this album, at least 4 of the songs majorly kick ass.

Essential Piece of the 90's
13 Track album including the bands second mega smash;
Cat's in the Cradle.
Each and every song could have been a single.
Busy Bee, Come Tomorrow and So Damn Cool are probably my favourites.
Vibe is fresh, positive and upbeat with
a poignant twist.
Aboslutely essential piece of the 90's.
Unique....a band that always were an island unto themslves.
