The Greatest!!
I feel that Pete Rock and CL smooth are the most underrated rap artists in the history of rap. Pete's style of using jazz and funk has been copied many times over. There is a difference between somone who has a record deal and someone who is a true artist. These brothers definetely represent the underappreciated element that is missing in most rap...the TRUE artist. Their style is legendary. If you see them available on amazon I strongly suggest you buy these three albums. MAGNIFICENT!!
Wonderful debut but too short...
This is a most beautiful debut CD by the trackmaster Pete Rock. I believe that my production is strongly influenced by his. Horns are the mainstay of hip-hop and before then they were mainly used as a simple loops. Pete Rock hit them up with a complicated melody of a medley of instrumention unparalleled in hip-hop anymore. I strongly believe that the hardest thing to appreciate is how one can distinguish one track from another one.Soul Survivor his latest disc is very good too but the production is more interesting as he samples other artists (rather than saying yeah on a dope beat and sampling CL Smooth on the old discs). Poor Nas gets blasted on that disc...
This disc is a wonderful sonic collage and perfect for hitting the bobbing heads for a late night or for a wonderful date. Perfect hip-hop for even those who hate hip-hop. This is the convincing quartet of hiphop discs!
