She climbed the highest mountain
Aaliyah. The name of the woman who gave birth to every teen sensation out since her debut. this includes Mya, monica, christina aguilera, britney spears, 3lw, 702 etc. She made it tight to sign a teen to a record deal. With 49 minutes of sheer genius of R. Kelly production and songwriting ( no they were never engaged) catapults this from mediocrity to being a cd for the ages. This beautiful girl with the beatiful voice knock folks on they heels with Back and Forth, then she went for the knockout punch with At Your Best and the title track. All the songs are brilliantly done and sung. Production is timeless. Another opus is Street Thing. Do not sleep on thsi joint anymore. Cream will always rise to the top. Dont get it twisted about Aaliyah. I bet some people think she a new artist which is pretty ridiculous. The mother will return witha album this summer drops on July 17th. She teased u with Romeo Must Die soundtrack but it is now time to restore order in her household of little "teenyboppers". If you consider ya self a true r&b fan then you should already have this cd If you dont you should be at the store in the next 15 minutes u will not be disappointed.
I still listen to the CD to this very day...
I have to say, I had this CD ever since it came out, and it's my most favorite out of my whole CD collection. Aaliyah has an original sound so she can stand out from everyone else...I don't think anyone can top her voice, because she sings like an angel. For her debut album, it's beautiful...makes me fall asleep every night when I listen to it because it's calm and makes me feel good. One of my favorite tracks on this CD is "At Your Best (You Are Loved)" because her remake of the song is really good. The beat to this song is nice and steady, and her voice makes the song very catchy; it's something you would fall in love with.
Some other catchy tunes are "Back And Forth" (her first single), "Young Nation", "Down With The Clique", and the title track, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number".
I think the CD is very enjoyable, and I highly recommend purchasing this CD.
She Climbed The Highest Mountain.....And Made It To The Top!
Released in the summer of 1994 and being only 15 at the time this album was released, Aaliyah certainly did hit the spolight with this 1994 debut album "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number". It was the two smash singles, "Back & Forth" and "At Your Best (You Are Love)" that brought her to her fame, hit the Top Ten and went gold, making "Back & Forth" number one on the R&B charts and "At Your Best" number two, making her debut album a definate classic that will always live in the hearts of Aaliyah fans all over the world! Aaliyah had a wonderful and touching voice and certainly did not waste the precious gift that God had blessed her with. Aaliyah started to work on this album when she was only 13 years old (Taking us back to 1992) with the help of singer/composer R. Kelly, who did a great job of assisting Aaliyah in the production of this album. This album is definately an R&B classic of the 90s, that has been enjoyed since day one by millions of fans. Even though it has been almost 2 years since her tragic and unfortunate death, her music and film contributions will live on forever, being missed by some and forgotten by none.
Some of my favourite tracks on this album include: "Throw Your Hands Up", "Back And Forth" (Which was also Aaliyah's first music video) "Down With The Clique", "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number", "At Your Best (You Are Love), "I'm So Into You" and "Street Thing". Generally, all tracks on this album were written and sung very good, which makes "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" a definate classic that Aaliyah was definately capable of recording. I also recommend her 2 other albums: "One In A Million" (1996) and "Aaliyah" (2001), which are 2 other well written albums from the late Aaliyah.
R. Kelly's 1st Protege! (4.5 stars)
You can pretty much tell R. Kelly did this record. From the sizzling "Throw Your Hands Up" to the infectious remix of "Back & Forth", this record almost tops his solo debut released a few months before Aaliyah's in late '93. And that has always been its downfall. At times, the production and arrangement outshines Aaliyah's artistic talent. Nevertheless, that didn't halt Aaliyah's popularity, as displayed by three HUGE hits ("Back & Forth", "Age Ain't Nothin' But A Number", At Your Best"), with "Back & Forth" topping the charts.
Other than the single highlights, other quality tracks include the heartfelt "Street Thing", (which is one of the few times Aaliyah displays her vocal charisma), the party-tune "I'm So Into You", and the precariously produced "Old School", (which features a sultry-delivered rap by Mr. Kelly).
What has always amazed me about this record was that Aaliyah being only 15 at the time of its release. That clearly showed that she was going to be a major star, regardless if she had the best in the business behind (and in front of) the boards. With that said, this is a cornerstone album, merging the '90s swing and urban soul into one wholesome set. It is also important because Aaliyah would completely forgo R. Kelly (mainly because of their alleged marriage fallout) and change her entire sound, with substantial help from Missy and the Timbaland team on her sophomore release two years later. I rated it a 4.5 because of its star quality album tracks and hit singles. It would have been a 5 if there was one more hit. However, that does not take away from its already stellar record. In other words, Aaliyah's debut is a definite purchase for a fan of '90s urban music, and a wise investment for any music lovers' collection.
Amazing....
I've liked Aaliyah growing up but just bought her album recently last year. For a 15 year old she was heavy! My fave tunes are:
I'm So Into You
Age Ain't Nothin
Street Thing
Young Nation
No-one Knows How To Love me
and who could forget the classic:
BACK AND FORTH (I like both versions)
I love this album not only cos it's Aaliyah but it just takes me back to the 90's, just allows my mind to go back to the old skool one time. For any Aaliyah fan this is for you....peace
