Monkees - 'Barreful Of Monkees' (Rhino)
Twelve songs aimed toward the younger pop fans. A couple of
novelty songs include the down right silly "Gonna Buy Me A Dog"
(a different version than the one I remember) and "Pillow Time".
The best tracks are, as far as I'm concerned "Your Auntie
Grizelda","Laugh", and the somewhat rocking "Saturday's Child".
On the count that I've seen them play in concert twice now,I
wonder as to WHY they've never played any of these live.
"Pillow Time," sung by Mickey Dolenz, is the best cut on the disc: a sweet, sly, jazzy tune persuading a child to sleep with visions of a "sleepy train" coming to collect them. And thus ends this terrific cd for kids. Opening with the boistress "Monkees Theme," and filled in the middle with such yummy selections as Carol King's "Your Auntie Grizelda" and Mike Nesmith's "Papa Genes's Blues," this is the perfect cd for your kids or the kid in you!
It's a wonderland for Alice....
this cd features some of the best and maybe some of the worst monkees songs ever. the theme. totally cool. gonna buy me a dog. totally funny. apples peaches bannannas and pears. ok for a monkees song. your aunrie grizelda. boring. teeny tiny gnome. boring. the rest are all great. but the only song they should have trashed is pilliow time. it is so boring about baby stuff . but its still a great asset to all there albums. get this cd today. you probely won't be dissapointed.
I thought this cd was very good considering what the Monkees were about back in the day. The songs are great for children to listen to and just have fun.
the monkees kick Butt
This album is good, for what it is..... The only song it was missing was Daddy's Song...... If u have a kid this may be perfect for getting them started on something great :) Buy with confidence just dont expect too much, it isn't the "White Album" just take it for what it is and u wont be disappointed.
