2Pac Greatest Hits Reviews

Terrific hits album from a rap icon...
It's been a while since I've bought any new rap; frankly, most new rap stinks. I've sold a lot of my old hip hop albums but have kept the classics (Low End Theory, Illmatic, It Takes A Nation..., 36 Chambers) if only for the sake of the nostalgia. However, I'll never part with my Tupac CD's. When I was a really big fan of rap, his songs have gotten me through some rough times in my life and, for that, I'm forever grateful. I think he was, and forever will be, the greatest rapper ever.

If you're new to the genre, and are tired of hearing crap like Chingy and Nelly, and don't have a single Pac album (poor bastard), this is a good way to start. It features most of his best songs, but suprisingly omits his GREATEST song, "Pain." In order to get that song in it's original format, you'll have to buy an import CD or download it off the net. Either way, make sure you get it.

After this, you'll want to hear more. I'd suggest Me Against The World (his best album), All Eyez On Me and Makaveli, which are the three crowning achievements in his catalogue.

Greatest Hits
This is a really good collection of 2Pac's Greatest Hits. Of the 2 cd's, DISC TWO is probably the better disc. Disc one's best songs are Keep Ya Head Up (a great song, proving he has enormous respect for females), 2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted (great collab. with snoop dogg, i aint a fan of snoop dogg at all but this is a great song), God Bless The Dead (another great song, love the music), Hit Em Up (2pac and the outlawz completely go off in this song! awesome diss on biggie, lil kim, etc, check out the last verse, 2pac cuts sick!), and the rest of the songs are tight too. Disc two pretty much every song is the best. Troublesome 96, Brenda's Got A Baby, I Ain't Mad At Cha, I Get Around, Changes (very classic song, sad song too), California Love, Picture Me Rollin', How Long Will They Mourn Me? (one of my favorites), Dear Mama (possibly the best song on the album), All About U, To Live & Die LA (classic 2pac, nothing else needed to be sed), and Heartz Of Men is a good way to finish off. Overall, this sums up 2pac's career near-perfectly. However, it is still missing some of the best 2pac songs ever, such as Part Time Mutha, and Me And My Girlfriend. Nevertheless, you MUST own this album if you call yourself a rap fan. If you don't, your opinion is garbage, fo' real.

Asome CD
I love all the songs from the CD from Keep ya Heap Up to It's all About You. I have it on Tape and now I'm going to have it on CD. It's a must have for 2pac fans.

An Impossible Task
Making a Pac Greatest Hits album was impossible if limited to two CDs of music.

First of all, this collection focuses mostly on his most popular tracks, as opposed to his BEST tracks. Sure, some of his most popular tracks were some of his best, but there are plenty of incredible songs that should have been on this album (like Pain), as opposed to a track like Toss It Up.

Then again, Pac made enough classic tracks to have a Greatest Hits collection triple this collection's size. That's what makes choosing the best of the best an impossible task.

great
Great cd.This man had compassion. (well I really don't think he's dead..but that's another story)...His songs are meaningful and at times, heartbreaking.Even when his songs are about other things (sex, etc.),it still stands out from most rap.He had great lyrical skills.A true genius at heart.
An indispensable and definitive collection showcasing the passionate genius of the late rapper. The album's nonchronological sequence highlights the contradictory impulses that made Tupac's music so commanding; the 21 well-loved "hits," some slightly reedited for legal reasons, are accompanied by four previously unheard songs. Of the new material, the raw-sounding "God Bless the Dead" has been the subject of the most speculation, owing to its subject matter: a eulogizing of the late Notorious B.I.G.--a mysterious feat, since Tupac was killed six months before Biggie. And, making its first proper appearance on a Tupac album, the B-side "Hit 'Em Up" stands as the most intense outburst of pure venomous rage ever captured on tape. Whether he's waxing political, philosophical, or just plain paranoid, Tupac's empathetic, charismatic style remains unmatched. --Charley Gothic
