2000 B.C. Reviews

Solid
Canibus has rediscovered his roots as a battle-rhymer now that he's fled Wyclef's Refugee Camp. Definately this CD is raw and Canibus' talent as an MC shine despite some of the wack beats. Canibus goes toe-to-toe with Rakim on one of the albums highlights. "Horsementality" is another track that features guest appearences and is on point. However the album is truly Canibus' and the best tracks on the album show him in all of his unadulterated, uncensored fury. In my opinion the best two tracks are "Watch Who You Beef Wit" and the fantastic "100 Bars". Casual hiphop fans will probably be disappointent by the lack of catchy hooks and beats. However the intensity of the lyrics such as: "Think you're better than Canibus where's the evidence? You've got below average intelligence and poor penmanship" are clever, sharp, and great to listen too. Definately a niche CD that should be purchased.

Can-I-Bus? Hell ya you can buss!
Canibus wants MCs to know of his skill and instills fear in their hearts just to make sure. On "I'll Buss Em U Punish Em" Canibus and Rakim tell of how they handle their opponents and enemies. On "2000 B.C.", Canibus again showcases his battling skills and even apologizes for his debut album, which he claims was ruined by Wyclef Jean's production. On "Horsementality," Canibus, Ras Kas, Killah Priest, and Kurupt join forces to bring line after line of swift battle rap laced with the usual gruesome metaphors. Though there aren't any deep meanings in this CD, "2000 B.C." shocks the mind with its raw nature and dark wit. There aren't any R&B wailings or cute hooks either, for Canibus is a straight lyricist who exemplifies true hip-hop.

Canibus is a raw, battle-hardened MC who displays his skills at rhyming freestyle on every track on "2000 B.C." He consistently spits witty metaphors and tells of the mutilation of his opponents, making this album a must-have for the hip-hop fan who is tired of softcore rappers that get more airplay than a jet.

Best 'Bis Album - By Far
Although his first album was a bust, canibus comes back hard to show the hip-hop world that he is truly a lyrical genius. His first album was busted by Wyclef's whack beats, but true fans knew that canibus was capable of much more and this album solidifies his genius. When he first hit the scene with monster battle-raps, he was projected to be the second coming of rakim. That prophesy fell short in Can-I-Bus, an album that was overshadowed by beef with LL Cool J and whack beats, but on this masterpiece he teams up with the God of hip-hop on "I'll Bust 'Em, You Punish 'Em", an instant rap classic to kill weak mc's and critics. If you're looking for an album that will get you hyped and leave you in awe, this is the one. I also recommend Mic Club and Rip the Jacker for other great canibus pieces.

Four Horsemen!

10 of 10 lyrics 8.5 of 10 beats

Tightest Rap disc ever spawned!!!
...Canibus is the best lyricist i have ever heard and this is his best album lyrics-wise, mabye not all the beats are perfect but his non-stop battle rapping doesnt get boring for days, weeks or even months. Ever since I got my hands on this CD it hasnt left my car deck, and i doubt it will anytime soon. This is the hardest hitting non-stop rap album in the history of music; not to be confused with those little pop stars who call themselves rappers. Better than all his new stuff in my opinion, this CD will leave your head spinnin' Like a set of new set of Omegas.

Peace.
Last time, he was mad at LL Cool J. This time Canibus is just mad, and his animalistic lyrics prove it throughout the 14 tracks that make up 2000 B.C.. "In bare knuckle boxing speed is the object / weaving and dodging with defensive blocking," he says of his lyrical strategy on the title cut. And he sticks to that plan as he rips through tracks laced with strings, classical choirs, pianos, and merciless drums. Canibus loops an answering-machine message for the hook on "Mic-nificent" and trades verses with the legendary Rakim on "I'll Buss 'Em U Punish 'Em." Hip-hop hasn't heard it this raw in a long time. But for those who like it smooth and poppy, 2000 B.C. is way before your time. --Kenji Jasper
